The world's first RFID playing cards
At the International Gaming Expo 2010 in London, Cartamundi has showed the world's first RFID playing cards. Prototypes have been developed in the past, but only now we have managed to produce a completely flat card.
At this moment, the product is probably too expensive for everyday casino use, but broadcasters of poker on television are extremely interested. It means they can show the card immediately without the need for carefully positioned camera's. This has the potential to save them a lot of money.
A demo of an automatic TV poker table with RFID cards can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sXGPgMtwck. The cards in this demo were made by Cartamundi using ink jet printers.
